We all have the struggle on when is the right time to book a photo session. Do I want spring or fall or winter or summer? What time should it occur? All of those questions are finally be taken into consideration and i want to help you all!
Here’s what to consider when deciding on when to have a session.
#1: Time of Year
We all love the summer! Um, hello? No school. Summer break. Summer is when I typically have the most free time and you can book a summer date later than you think. Always ask me if I have an open spot because I most likely can fit you in on a weekday – weekends get booked faster. It is hot so keep that in mind but summer shoots are always fun! Seniors: Get a head of the game before you’re deep in homework or busy with the sport you play or club you’re in! I have a lot of seniors book in the summer because they have a fairly clear schedule too and don’t have to worry about conflicts.
Holy cow! If fall isn’t your favorite season then wow but I get it. People have a difference of opinions. Fall gets booked up the fastest so jump on it and don’t wait! I am usually out of fall dates by mid-September. I hate turning people down so get on it! Seniors: This is my most popular season (besides spring). If you’re wanting a spot book me asap.
Brr! This is my couple season! I love to get all the couple booked here. If you have a loved one or significant other, grab them and tell them to be ready to have their picture taken! I take most of my time off here so even though I am not super busy with shoots, my available spots go fast. Seniors: You can most definetly get winter photos! I love the sweet snow shots!
Whoo hoo! It’s finally starting to get warm again! Spring is when the flowers are blooming and the trees are coming back to life! I love love love spring photos! Just like fall, this is my busy season. I have a lot of last minute seniors taking spots. Seniors: Last chance! Don’t wait to book with me in the spring if you’re wanting photos by me.
#2: Day of the Week
Most people are available on the weekends so those are booked first. Not a lot of people are available on the weekdays but for those who are, I have a surprise for you! A lot of places aren’t as crowded on weekdays. That may mean you have the whole park to yourself or a good chunk of it. If there are fees to get into places, they are usually lower on weekdays.
It’s the weekend baby! The majority of my availability is on the weekend and I’m sure yours is too. These are the most wanted spots. If you’re on the edge of booking me but I only have a couple weekend spots left then ask me all your questions that’s keeping you from hitting send on my contact form. You will never annoy me!
#3: Time of the Day
Hello early bird! I have a love hate relationship with morning sessions. I love morning sessions because it “gets it out of the way” for you. After your session, you have the rest of the day to do whatever you want! I also love them because there isn’t any worry about traffic (most of the time)! No one likes being stuck in traffic. It is earlier so you may have to set an alarm, ugh, hate that thing. The lighting is also a little harsher than in the evening (excluding cloudy days – which are my favorite.
Golden hour all the freaking wayyyy people!! Wowoowow! You will be a glowing goddess in the sunset! I love evening shoots but they have their pros and cons too. It’s usually a lot more crowded in the evenings. Just like you, everyone wants to shoot then. These spots are the first to go. I love the lighting here. If I could have golden hour be golden afternoon I would and I’d shoot for hourssss! Seniors: If you want an evening shoot, book it now. Don’t wait. If you’re unsure, ask me questions so the date doesn’t slip away.
#4: How Far in Advance to Book It
My sessions are usually booked a month or two in advance. Yup that’s right. When I tell you don’t wait I mean it. I want to work with you just as much or more than you want to work with me. I love meeting you all and it absolutely kills me to have to say no and that I’m already booked.
If you’re wanting a summer session, try to book a month out, two weeks at the absolute latest. Because I will be available on weekdays as well as weekends I am not usually fully booked with shoots.
If you’re wanting a fall session, I recommend booking a minimum of two months in advance. When people start booking they go fast so get ahead of the game so you don’t have to panic trying to make a date work. These are the first to go. I have to turn a lot of last minute inquiries down because they were too late.
If you’re wanting a winter session, try to book a month out, two weeks at the absolute latest. I will be available on some weekdays as well as weekends I am not usually fully booked with shoots. I do have limited spots because it’s over holiday.
If you’re wanting a spring session, book it as soon as you know you want one. A lot of seniors book here for the beautiful flowers and leaves as well as last minute seniors. It wouldn’t seem like they would be booked easily but I’ve had to turn down sessions here too.
