April 12, 2020
Thursday, April 9th, 2020. We are all required to stay in our houses until April 30th, as of now, with limited exceptions to go out.
This time is killer to most people. A lot of people are losing their jobs or out of work due to the Stay at Home mandate. I was one of them. Was? Yup, was. Why, was? Because I found a way to keep shooting with no contact.
Tyra and I are in the same boat. Life didn’t stop when quarantine happened. We kept working. Tyra is the founder and creator of Virago Candle Studio.
I started Virago Candle Studio because ever since I was little, I’ve LOVED candles. My mom used to buy candles in bulk from a woman in St. Clair, MO. We always had candles burning! And I’ve always loved to have candles burning or some kind of home fragrance present in my own home, and the girls who came to my bachelorette party last year actually brought candles as gifts instead of traditional bachelorette gifts. I think the atmosphere and energy the flame and scent of a good candle brings into your home is so cozy and cleansing. I made the connection to actually start making them when my wife kept getting on me for buying one every time we went to Target or Bath & Body Works. So I decided I would try my hand at making some! I figured that I could potentially find a new hobby I enjoyed and create my own candles for our home. So I started making them and realized I wanted to share what I’m making with others. After a bit of a hiatus and some rebranding, I created Virago Candle Studio. Virago is a word to describe women who are strong and brave, and possess exemplary and heroic qualities, and I wanted my brand to stand for all of the bad ass women in my life and have inspired me to be a better daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, friend and partner. I was really inspired by a clean, crisp aesthetic when figuring out what I wanted my candles to look and smell like. I’m going to start off my line with five scents I personally love and eventually branch out into some other seasonal smells and other products! I essentially want to portray my love for and connection with candles and share with others, and hopefully they feel that too.Tyra
I found a loophole to this madness to keep working, staying indoors, and helping small businesses in need. I was offering free branding shoots to any local business that wanted some photos for marketing during this time. What you gave was exactly what you got back. 2-5 images per item was what I retuned. You could give as much or as little as you wanted. The items are shipped or dropped off so no contact at all.
I am so in love with serving and helping others. Especially, those who may not have the money for professional photos, who are just starting their business and don’t have a lot of disposable business to share.
This shoot was such an honor.
